The third-seeded PV Sindhu put up a brilliant performance against Turkey’s world no. 30 Neslihan Yigit. The reigning world champion thumped Yigit 21-13, 21-10 in 35 minutes.
Sindhu will play Japan’s world no. 3 Akane Yamaguchi in the semifinals on Saturday. Head-to-head, Sindhu leads Yamaguchi 12-7. The last time when these two world-class athletes faced each other was at the Tokyo Olympics which went in favor of the Indian.
In the men’s singles, world no. 15 Kidambi Srikanth was up against fellow Indian HS Prannoy in the quarterfinals. Prannoy who stunned the world no. 2, Viktor Axelsen, in the pre-quarters couldn’t manage to put up a fight in the quarterfinals against Srikanth. Lost the match 21-7, 21-18.
Srikanth who was coming off from an hour-long match against Indonesian sixth seed Jonatan Christie looked undeterred against Prannoy. With this win, Srikanth confirmed his spot at this year’s BWF World Tour Finals.
Srikanth to play Denmark’s world no. 3 Anders Antonsen in the semifinals on Saturday. Head-to-head, Antonsen leads Srikanth 2-1. The last time they faced each other was at the BWF World Tour Finals in January. It was a one-hour seventeen minutes long marathon of a match that went in favor of the Dane, 15-21, 21-16, 21-18.
