India Open update: Can PV Sindhu & Srikanth triumph on home ground

The HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 Yonex-Sunrise India Open starts today at the K. D. Jadhav Indoor Hall, New Delhi, India.

PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth who had a progressive 2021 will be looking to carry on the momentum and grab as many points as possible from the opening tournament of 2022. Both the Indian shuttlers have been seeded top seeds in their respective categories.

Other than PV Sindhu and Srikanth other Indian players who are part of the Super 500 event are former women’s world no.1 Saina Nehwal, 2022 BWF world championships bronze medal winner Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, Sameer Verma, Ashwini Ponnappa/Sikki Reddy, Chirag Shetty/Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, & Ajay Jayram.

Last time the former champion Saina Nehwal was in action was at the 2021 Uber Cup in Aarhus Denmark. She forced to retired in the first match against Spain’s Clara Azurmendi due to a groin injury. She will be on court after a 3 month gap and hoping to put up a good show.

Amongst the top international players, recently crowned world champions Loh Kean Yew, Tommy Sugiarto, Busanan Ongbamrungphan, Chan Peng Soon/Valeree Slow, world famous doubles pair Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan have made it to India’s premier event.

On the opening day Srikanth takes on fellow Indian Siril Verma, Lakshya Sen against Egypt’s Adham Hatem Elgamal, Sindhu is up against Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli.
