Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying have been the most celebrated mixed doubles pair for Malaysia.
Going by their performance in the last few years looks like they are at the penultimate turn.
The 2016 Rio Olympics silver medalist had a forgetful 2021. Chan and Goh lost both the group stage matches and crashed out of the Olympics.
The world no.8 lost out on an opportunity of being part of the national team at the 2021 Sudirman Cup that was held in Finland. The Malaysians failed yet again as they lost in the first round at the Denmark Open.
Chan & Goh managed to put behind their Danish miseries and reached the quarterfinals at the French Open only to lose out to eventual mixed doubles champions Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino.
The Malaysians continued their European tour with an entry at the 2021 HYLO Open in Saarbrucken, Germany. They were up against world No 43 Mikkel Mikkelsen and Rikke Soby of Denmark. Once again they struggled to get out of the first round. Lost the match 20-22, 21-15, 16-21 in 53 minutes.
Could this be the beginning of the end for Chan, 33, and Goh, 32 years who are far from their previous best.
