BWF Indonesia Open: Sindhu, Praneeth, Satwik & Chirag move into quarters

Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu, Sai Praneeth, Satwiksairaj & Chirag Shetty advanced to the quarterfinals at the BWF World Tour Super 1000 Indonesia Open on Thursday.

Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu, Sai Praneeth, Satwiksairaj & Chirag Shetty advanced to the quarterfinals at the BWF World Tour Super 1000 Indonesia Open on Thursday. Former world no.1 Kidambi Srikanth made an early exit.

The reigning world champion PV Sindhu beat world no.26 Yvonne Li in straight games 21-12, 21-18. The ace shuttler was in prolific form against the German as she wrapped up the match in 37 minutes.

Sindhu will up against South Korea’s world no.54 Sim Yujin in the quarter-finals.

World no.16, B. Sai Praneeth second round match was against the Christo Popov. The world no.70 who had beaten world no.5 Anothony Sinisuka Ginting in the first round was on a high. But the Indian managed to fend off the French attack and closed the match 21-17, 14-21, 21-19. Praneeth will play world no.2 Viktor Axelsen next.

Satwiksairaj and Chirag Shetty are the only surviving Indian doubles pair at the Super 1000 tournament were up against South Korea’s Kang Minhyuk and Seo Sengjae.

The sixth seeded Satwik/Chirag battled for an hour and fifteen minutes against the Koreans and won the match 21-15, 19-21, 23-21. The Indian’s will play Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin of Malaysia.

The most sensational news of the day was from men’s singles match of Kento Momota versus Loh Kean Yew. As the young Singaporean managed to stun the world no.1 Kento Momota.

Loh, ranked No.26 in the world, defeated the Indonesia Masters champion in three sets with a scoreline of 21-7, 17-21, 21-19. Loh’s latest victory came a day after he prevailed against Kashyap Parupalli in the opening round, winning 21-11, 21-14.

Loh will next face Denmark's world No. 20 Hans-Kristian Vittinghus in the quarter-finals on Friday.
