7 Indian shuttlers booked their spot in the World Tour Finals
Lakshya Sen becomes youngest Indian badminton player to qualify for the BWF World Tour Finals.
The HSBC BWF World Tour Finals is the last tournament of the year that is held every December. Players with the most number of points that particular calendar year get qualified to compete in the showcase event.
The eligibility for this event, top eight players/pairs in the BWF World Tour rankings of each category at the end of the World Tour circuit gets a chance to play. All the member associations have a limitation on the number of entries to a maximum of two players/pairs in each category.
This is the fourth edition of the BWF World Tour Finals organized by the Badminton Association of Indonesia in Nusa Due, Bali, Indonesia.
PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth, Lakshya Sen, Satwiksairaj/Chirag Shetty, and Ashwini Ponnappa/Sikki Reddy put some impressive performances in the last ten months and qualified for the upcoming World Tour Finals, scheduled between 01st-05th December 2021.
While this is the first for Lakshya Sen, Satwiksairaj/Chirag Shetty, and Ashwini Ponnappa/Sikki Reddy. Sindhu and Srikanth have competed at the World Tour Finals in the past, Sindhu is the only one to have won this event in 2019. Srikanth managed to reach the knockout stage but has never reached the finals.
The world No. 11, Satwiksairaj/Chirag Shetty are the first Indian men's doubles duo to make the cut, Lakshya Sen become the youngest Indian in the men’s singles category to qualify for the USD 1,500,000 tournament.
The best the Indian shuttles managed is to reach the semi-finals in the last events in Bali. It would be a treat to all the Indian fans if the Indian shuttlers manage to reach the finals at the World Tour Finals.
