Unstoppable Sapsiree!!!
It’s a season of unique records in Badminton. A power-packed season filled with back-to-back tournaments with close to 100 days of play.
Since the end of the Tokyo Olympics, BWF has lined up a series of tournaments with a max of 10 days resting period. There have been players retiring from the tournaments due to injuries.
But here is a pair that has achieved a truly remarkable feat. They have played close to 50 matches in the last 75 days, featured in 6 world tour championships, appeared in 5 finals, and won 4 titles back-to-back.
If someone told that badminton players can play consecutive tournaments for over 2 months, no one would have accepted it.
Thailand’s world no.1 mixed doubles pair of Sapsiree Taerattanachai & Dechapol Puavaranukroh have achieved something that would be difficult to emulate.
Since the end of the Tokyo Olympics have participated in Sudirman Cup, Thomas
& Uber Cup, Victor Denmark Open, Yonex French Open, Hylo Open, Daihatsu Indonesia Masters, SimInvest Indonesia Open & the BWF World Tour Finals.
Reflecting on her incredible record the 29-year-old Sapsiree said, “I think this is the first and last time I will ever play 50 matches in such a short space of time.”
She also spoke about the importance of sports science, “sports science is the main reason that I have stayed injury-free. I try to recover after a match as quickly as possible. I always cool down post-match. I’ll eat a banana, run, walk and then take an ice bath. I make sure I eat a lot and get enough sleep, usually six to eight hours a night.”
The Thai pair will be back in action at the BWF World Championships that’s scheduled between 12th-19th December 2021, to be held in Huelva, Spain.
