Truly Remarkable!!!
World no.6 An Seyoung defeated world no.7, PV Sindhu, and bagged the BWF World Tour Finals title on Sunday in Bali.
The Korean beat Sindhu 21-16, 21-12 in 39 minutes and secured the season-ending championship. She overpowered Sindhu throughout the match, punishing Sindhu time and again.
This is her first BWF World Tour Finals title, she also became the first Korean women’s singles player to win this championship.
The 19-year-old Korean had a sensational run in the last couple of months, featuring in four finals, the Denmark Open, Indonesia Masters, Indonesia Open, and the World Tour Finals. An Seyoung clean swept Bali with three back-to-back titles.
Talking in the post-match interview An said, “When I play badminton, I’m always happy.”
“It’s been a tiring three weeks for me. I’m super glad to come away with three titles and I’m very happy about it. I’m really excited about the World Championships and I’m hoping to play without any injuries.”
Throughout the last couple of months An displayed superb character, particularly during the important matches, she was very calm and closed out the matches with utter ease.
“I was listening to my coach, who was telling me how to play my opponent on the court. People tell me I’m mature, but I know I’m young. When I play, it’s a learning process,” she added.
While Tai Tzu Ying, Chen Yu Fei, Carolina Marin, and Nozomi Okuhara have been away post the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, An Seyoung has responded well and amazingly established herself as one of the top players in the women’s singles circuit going into the World Championships.
The 26th edition of the BWF World Championships is scheduled between 12th - 19th December 2021 in Huelva, Spain.
