Sindhu cruises into the semifinals at the French Open

PV Sindhu who is playing her second tournament after the Tokyo Olympics is eyeing a place in the finals at the BWF Super 750 championship.

World No.7 has continued her stunning form in Paris. She stormed past Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan in straight-game on Friday. Winning the match 21-14 21-14, wrapping the match in 38 minutes, and extending her head-to-head lead against the eighth seed to 14-1.

Sindhu will lock horns against Japan’s Sayaka Takahashi. A win over the world no.15 on Saturday will reserve a spot in the finals.

In the recent encounter, Takahashi has beaten Sindhu. But the reigning world champion holds a 4-3 head-to-head lead against Japanese women’s singles player.

In other matches, 20-year-old Lakshya Sen had a brilliant run at the French capital succumbed against Korea’s Heo Kwanghee in two straight games 17-21, 15-21. Lakshya surprised everyone with a win over Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in the pre-quarterfinals.

Indian fans had some more disappointment as the doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty went down fighting against the Malaysian paid of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, final score 21-18, 18-21 & 17-21.
