Retired Olympic medalist to be part of Denmark Open 2021, as a player!!!
Mathias Boe, one of the Danish badminton legends is trying to make a comeback at this year's Denmark Open.
The Danish Doubles specialist retired from the game in April 2020. Mathias Boe was the most celebrated doubles player of his generation. He partnered with Carsten Mogensen for most of his career, winning close to 38 BWF titles and a Silver medal at the London Olympic games.
Post his retirement Mathias Boe took up coaching with the Indian doubles team.
In 2020, Mathias Boe along with his good friend, Bollywood superstar Taapsee Pannu sponsored an NGO called Nanhi Kali that supports education for underprivileged girls in India. Through this NGO Boe and Pannu support over 100 girls.
To further his support towards Nanhi Kali he approached his longtime friend and established businessman Micheal Sarfelt. Mathias said, “I spoke to Michael about the NGO and offered him that if he supports this charity, I will partner with him at the Denmark Open and for which Michael responded, ‘I will support your project no matter what. Boe added, “I kept my end of the deal, and now we have entered the Denmark Open”.
Mathias Boe will also be present at the Denmark Open as the coach of the Indian men’s doubles team. It will be a nice proposition to see Boe playing dual roles at the Denmark Open.
The Denmark Open is a BWF Super 1000 World Tour tournament scheduled to be held from 19th-24th October. World Tour tournaments have no qualifying rounds and only the top 32 ranked players/teams in all categories will qualify to play at the tournament.
Given the level of competition, the chances for Boe and his partner qualifying to the main draw will be a tad bit difficult.
