PV Sindhu on 2022 tournament schedule
The Badminton World Federation has lined up over 25 tournaments across the next twelve months. If the players aren’t selective about the events they want to play it might affect their rankings.
The year that went by was one to remember, filled with fun, fight, excitement, and of course COVID-19. The attention was mainly on the Tokyo Olympics, as the sporting spectacle was postponed from 2020 to 2021 due to the pandemic. However, the Olympics was underway as planned and completed without any hurdles.
Post the quadrennial event the rest of the calendar was filled with many back-to-back tournaments. Players traveled thousands of miles starting from Finland to Denmark to Paris to Germany in September and October. Then moved to Indonesia in November for the Indonesian badminton festival and finally closed the season in Spain with the world championships. It was a hectic year.
The new year does not provide much respite to the players, the 2022 calendar kicks off in India with the Yonex-Sunrise India Open and the Syed Modi India International in January. After a month's break in February, the stage will move to Europe with the Spain Masters, Gainward German Open, All England Open, and Swiss Open. Alongside the regular tournaments, this year will also see two big International team events, the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games in September.
Talking to leading daily news the Indian ace shuttler PV Sindhu said, “We have continuous tournaments coming in 2022 also. But to keep up your shape, you need to pick and choose the ones to play in. I will do that after discussing with my coach and the team.”
“Last couple of months in 2021 were hectic, but it was also important when it came to ranking and seeding. So, I had my physical trainer with me all the time so that I could stay fit between matches.”
Sindhu, like in the Olympics, has a silver and a bronze medal from previous Asian games. She will be looking to go one better this time, “It has always been a tough one, because all the top Asian players, who have been doing well recently, will be there. We have to be at our best from the first round and there won’t be any easy games”, the world no.7 concluded.
