Marin back on the court, BWF World Championships
Carolina Marin who was out of action due to an ACL tear since June 2021 will be back on the court on home turf.
Marin overwhelmed PV Sindhu to win the gold medal at the 2016 Olympics was in terrific form leading up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, was the favorite to win back-to-back gold before picking up a knee injury during one of the training sessions.
The Spanish icon is back on the court at the season-ending BWF World Championships, scheduled between 12th-19th December. She will be playing at the arena which is named after her, a rare honor in sports.
The former world no.1 begins her fourth title hunt with a bye match in the first round. If things go well she will be facing Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt or He Bing Jiao of China.
The women’s singles top draw has top seed Tai Tzu Ying and reigning world champion PV Sindhu. Similar to Marin, the Chinese Taipei star will be playing her first championship after the Olympics.
The bottom draw has two important players Akane Yamaguchi and An Seyoung, both of whom are coming off winning major titles in their bag.
All in all, badminton fans across the world will be excited to see Marin back on the court and expecting a fierce fight like always.
