It’s title no.15 for China!!
China beat Japan 3-1 and secured its 15th Uber Cup title in Aarhus, Denmark on Saturday.
China, which was third-best in 2018, looked to improve, but Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi had other plans as she thumped the Olympic gold medalist Chen Yu Fei in straight games 21-18, 21-10. Putting China on the back foot and giving Japan the best start. Japan leading 1-0.
However, the Chinese got their act together and pulled things back in an epic women's doubles match. China’s Chen Qing Chen / Jia Yi Fan beat Japan's Yuki Fukushima / Mayu Matsumoto 29-27, 15-21, 21-18. One of the greatest doubles matches at the Uber Cup finals lasted almost two hours. China leveled the tie 1-1.
China won the second women's singles match as He Bing Jiao beat Sayaka Takahashi 21-9, 21-18 and took 2-1 lead.
The Chinese secured the title in the fourth match of the tie as Huang Dong Ping / Li Wen Mei beat Misaki Matsutomo / Nami Matsuyama in two closely-contested games 24-22, 23-21. Final score: China beat Japan 3-1.
In other matches on Saturday, Indonesia beat Denmark and China beat Japan with identical score lines in the semifinals of the Thomas Cup. Indonesia to play China in the finals on Sunday the 17th of October 2021.
