Mulyo Handoyo and Tan Kim Her who helped India’s men’s singles and doubles circuit achieve great laurels in 2017 set to return to India.

Mulyo who was coaching the Singapore national team returns to India for his second spell. In his first stint, the Indonesian had helped Kidambi Srikanth to achieve some incredible results. Under his coaching, Srikanth won a record four Super Series titles and also ranked no.1 in the world. He also helped Sai Praneeth and HS Prannoy register some amazing victories.

Tan Kim Her on the other hand was the coach responsible for pairing Satwik and Chirag, who have gone on to become India’s best doubles pair ever. Under Tan’s guidance, Satwik/Chirag broke into the top 20 of the world ranking and won a silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth games.

Badminton India announced this news after the men’s singles coach Agus Dwi Santoso submitted his resignation. Badminton Association of India had called for new coaches post-Agus departure. Ajay Singhania, BAI secretary confirmed that “The contracts of all the coaches expire in December end, so we will have to seal the appointments by this month. Our chief coach Pullela Gopichand is discussing with the coaches on various issues such as salaries, accommodation, etc.”

“Mulyo and Tan have been in the Indian set up so we are favoring them and we are hoping to get their services from the India Open in January. Of course, it is yet to be finalized as we are still discussing the details," the secretary said.

In other news, Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy has roped in South Korea’s two-time Olympic men’s doubles silver medalist, Yoo Yong-sung.

Yoo’s appointment was finalized after a search conducted under a joint initiative by PPBA and OGQ (Olympic Gold Quest), to groom talented players and achieve podium success at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Yoo has been in China since 2019 and he was the first-ever foreign coach appointed by the Chinese national team. With such talented coaches coming to

India will massively boost all the players in the country, and target a better medal tally at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
