Indonesia thrashed China 3-0 and won the Thomas Cup title in Aarhus, Denmark on Sunday.
Indonesia kicked off the finals with a win from world no.5 and Tokyo Olympics men's singles bronze medallist Anthony Sinisuka Ginting over Lu Guangzu, a three games thriller that lasted over an hour, 18-21, 21-14, 21-16.
The second was a doubles match, Fajar Alfian / Muhammad Rian Ardianto taking over He Jiting and Zhou Haodong. The world no.7 pair sealed the deal in straight games as they crushed the Chinese 21-12, 21-19.
Next, second of the men’s singles match, Jonatan Christie vs Li Shifeng. The 2018 Asian Games champions delivered the final blow, after recovering from a second game slip to edge past the world no.65 Li Shifeng 21-14, 18-21, 21-14.
It took Indonesians 19 years to win the Thomas Cup again, the last time they won was back in 2002. This victory has put Indonesia with the most number of Thomas Cup titles, a total of 14 and four more than second-placed China.
