Can PV Sindhu defend her crown at the World Championships?
The Badminton World Championships commences today in Huelva, Spain, can the Indian ace conjure another medal at the season-ending event.
PV Sindhu the reigning world champion got a bye in her first-round match and looks like she will run into Thailand's Pornpawee Chochuwong in the pre-quarterfinals. The Thai youngster has the upper hand as she got the better of Sindhu on the previous two occasions.
If the two-time Olympics medalist manages to overcome this match, she will be up against the mighty world no.1 Tai Tzu Ying. The Chinese Taipei star who ended her Olympic medal drought with a silver medal in Tokyo will be playing her first tournament after the Olympics.
Sindhu has always fared well at the World Championships as she has managed to win five medals at this prestigious event (three bronze, two silver & one gold).
With the current Olympics champions Chen You Fei, former world no.1 Carolina Marin, and former world champion Nozomi Okuhara pulling out of the tournament in the final minute made things easier for the Indian shuttler.
If victorious in all the matches Sindhu might end up against Korea’s An Seyoung in the finals.
