A Legend Gone Too Soon!

Indonesian badminton legend, a former Olympics Gold Medalist Markis Kido, died at the age of 36 due to cardiac arrest. This news shocked the entire badminton world.

Kido collapsed during a casual match on Monday evening and was later confirmed dead at the hospital in Jakarta, as confirmed by the Badminton Association of Indonesia.

People who have watched him play say, he was one of the shortest badminton players they have seen and size doesn’t matter when you are as good as Markis Kido. His quick movement, intelligent net plays, and relentless smashing capability from the back of the court was a scene to be watched.

Kido’s long-time men’s doubles partner Hendra Setiawan took to social media to express his grief, “My deepest condolences to your family, one of my best partners in joy and sorrow. He is an extraordinary player. I want to say Thank you very much for being a very good partner for me in winning or losing. Thank you for partnering from scratch and fighting together for 14 years. Thank you Kido & goodbye”.

Kido & Setiawan’s paring won many championships, most important of them all is them winning Gold at 2008 Beijing Olympics. They were formidable pair, dominated the world's badminton doubles circuit for many years. Winning BWF world championship 2007 in Kuala Lumpur and Gold medal at Guangzhou Asian Games in 2010 are some of the highlights from their illustrious career.
